This story about a shady oil company gagging the Guardian, only to have the restricted story plastered all over the Internet, (and specifically highlighted by twitter) is brilliant. This is just the kind of thing (making it hard to do crappy things because EVERYONE will instantly find out about it) that the Internet should have been could at for years but it's taken the axle grease of twitter to allow the buzz to get around efficently.
Generally, pre-twitter, to find out about something you'd have to either go and look for it or have it appear on something you read like slashdot for example. With twitter the buzz-propagation of re-tweeting and trending topics and what-have-you allows you to find out about stuff that any serious amount of people are talking about really quickly.
I can't wait for the deals that are in the works to have twitter provide real-time results on search engines because I think that will enhance the shared-brain effect even more.
